Trigger Warning: sexual assault
#1 The dedication is sad. I just realized it’s been a while since I’ve read a sad dedication.
#2 The dedication hit me hard I’m suddenly sad.
#3 OH MY GOD I THINK I’M GOING TO GET JUST WHAT I HAD EXPECTED OR EVEN MORE.
#4 This is cool, it’s like they have a mythology of their own.
#5 I don’t get why the God of Sky got mad after the Goddess of Beauty refused to go home? They had children, right? (Or by “children” that means the people in the world Sky created?) So, is the “home” being talked about is somewhere up there in the sky? Why is Beauty not there in the first place? She’s a Goddess, so it’s safe to assume that she should be living up there too or wherever it is gods and goddesses live.
#6 Oh my gosh this is so much more interesting than what I thought.
#7 I don’t know but I imagine the setting like that of Beauty and the Beast (the inside of the castle where they held the ball before everything got cursed) and their props and clothes or that latest Alice in Wonderland movie that is so colorful and vibrant.
#8 This is so unique!
#9 The setting is just mesmerizing.
#10 This book is about beauty and the setting so far is a real beaut, so does the people and everything. I think everything in this book is just going to be beautiful.
#11 I’m having a hard time picturing things in my head a bit. There’s just too much details.
#12 I want to be a Belle.
#13 I imagine the people look like dolls. Because of the fact that they can change their appearances however they want and of course, they would want to be as perfect as they could be – almost as if they were not humans anymore.
#14 If I were a Belle I would also love to be the personal Belle of the royal family.
#15 I love the names in this book. I think some of them are French?
#16 “Envy can grow like a weed inside you. Be the best without trying to be better than the others.” THIS LINE
#17 Okay this is like living in a dream where you can be everything you want to be or look however you like.
#18 So Camellia is the ambitious one.
#19 The responsibility of the Belles is so heavy and they really have a tough job considering how few they are compared to all these people of Orleans they have to transform. Not even to mention how important their duty is.
#20 So the men and women of Orléans are greedy
#21 Omg why did she do that????? She could have just transformed her to have other features that is still as beautiful. But why did she make her look like her? That might cause her a problem in the long run.
#22 So I’m predicting that Camellia and Holly will be rivals soon.
#23 Ooh so it will fade. lol I’m overreacting again. I am so good at overreacting why am I like this
#24 I can smell something bad with this princess…
#25 This book is full of roses I think it might be mentioned for at least 100x more in the future.
#26 I love the precise description of everything in this book. The author really used her imagination to the highest level like how can you even think about different looks and different combinations of various beautiful things in many ways?
#27 If you don’t know what this is all about you’ll think how Camellia describes everything is exaggerated.
#28 “Her light brown skin turns pink.” Like her whole skin not just her cheeks??? Lol
#29 It’s Amber and Camellia who will be rivals. It’s pretty obvious
#30 Being a Belle is both a curse and a blessing.
#31 “We are, each of us, in the exact same place right now. Shouldn’t we support one another?” Okay Camellia, I don’t know how could you say such a line. I mean idk if you could really support your sisters? Because of your self-interest?
#32 Camellia saying that they all want to be the favorite to Amber finally did this. Maybe at the back of Amber’s mind, she always thought Camellia will not really compete with her. But it finally came from her mouth.
#33 Pink everywhere.
#34 What if the Belles rebel and refuse to make anyone beautiful? Would there be a war? Well, they can’t kill the Belles anyway because that would mean they will all be ugly forever.
#35 I have a feeling I will not like Amber.
#36 Come on Amber, don’t be selfish and close minded. Be a sport.
#37 Aahh I’m starting to love Edelweiss!
#38 “Who wants love when you can have power?” lol Amber I want both.
#39 Oohhh okay now I get it. The children mentioned in the beginning were the people of Orleans. They’re Sky and Beauty’s children
#40 “Love isn’t a cage, petit,” HEART EYES TEARS
#41 “It’s more like a post-balloon—sent off in a specific direction, but allowed to make its own path.” MORE HEART EYES MORE TEARS
#42 So it’s like Sky is the bad father and Beauty the loving mother.
#43 Am I that bad if I love it when Edel and Amber are arguing?
#44 Oh my gad Auguste Fabry thanks for coming into my life please don’t break my heart.
#45 Why are y’all doing this to the Belles? It’s so unfair. Y’all shouldn’t make them feel this way.
#46 Oh my gosh I am also nervous and excited for Camellia. MY HEART
#47 OH NOOOOOO
#48 I hate you, Du Barry.
#49 Okay I already expected this. That she won’t be the one because hello always expect the unexpected and if you’ve read tons of books you already know this rule because it will spice up the story but I still feel kind of sad for her.
#50 If I am one of the people of Orleans, I would make my eyes and hair look like the night sky. I don’t care about anything else yet I just want my eyes and hair to be like the night sky full of stars.
#51 You see, Camellia, you can’t follow rules (just like me). Hun, just think that this is a blessing. Things might be worse if you were the favorite.
#52 Lady Jocquard has a tough love for her child. And I don’t like her. I pity the child.
#53 Camellia is in a prison not a teahouse there’s really something bad going on here. #54 Where the heck is Ambrosia.
#55 Oh my gosh I just can’t accept how they treat their Belles.
#56 Tbh The Belles should have the freaking power.
#57 You’ll regret wanting to be the favorite.
#58 Nooooo. Is that a threat?
#59 I demand to know what happened to Ambrosia.
#60 I always forget that this is told on 1st person’s point of view. Sometimes it sounds like it’s told on 3rd person’s point of view.
#61 I have a feeling Remy will be Camilla’s love interest.
#62 Oh, I totally forgot about Auguste Fabrey’s existence lmao.
#63 I have this feeling I’m going to like Remy.
#64 EDEL, PLEASE BE CAREFUL.
#65 Just when you thought things couldn’t get more magical, miroir metaphysique suddenly appears.
#66 I suspect there will be a love triangle. Either the princess, Auguste and Camilla or Auguste, Camilla and Remy. But I hope not lol
#67 My heart also thuds
#68 Sometimes there are too many details being described in a scene or even a person that I just want to skip all these adjectives.
#69 Creepy and disgusting princess.
#70 Ohmygod this is disgusting af.
#71 You think you are not beautiful because you are so insecure.
#72 Ohmygod here we are again with the long list of foods. I love foods and I really appreciate the glamour but I just have to roll my eyes because it’s getting tiring. Not everyone has the time.
#73 I think this has something to do with the princess, she’s so obsessed with the Belles, especially Camellia that she made this new Belle look like Camellia. #74 The royal family is keeping so many secrets especially about the Belles they are hiding. Girls, this is too obvious.
#75 This is a long book but I’m surprisingly fast *for my own standards*
#76 I knew it. Princess Sophia wants Camellia so she did something to make the queen remove Amber on her position and Camellia replace her. And now Princess Sophia wants her and Camellia to be best friends. So there will be like a “friendship” triangle. But of course Camellia will still choose to be by Amber’s side. The only problem now is that Camellia doesn’t know yet what princess Sophia did to Amber and she honestly can’t go against the princess anyway.
#77 Wth are you doing Auguste???
#78 Aww. In most stories, it’s always the King who has mistresses but in this one the Queen has a lover. Could this book be even more refreshing?
#79 Lol Camellia, I can’t understand why you can’t see how incapable of being a queen Princess Sophia is. This is not just about trust. If the Queen knew she’s in the right state of mind to be one, she’ll let her. But it already came from her mouth that she isn’t. So she can’t be the queen.
#80 Yes, you are alike. But there’s also one thing different between the two of you. You want the right things. You wouldn’t want to harm others, unlike Sophia. Sophia is selfish to the point she doesn’t care about others anymore.
#81 “No one is a prisoner.” He takes a sip of tea. “Even you have the power to make your own choices.” I really love it every time you talk, Remy.
#82 I’m taking it back. I think Auguste doesn’t have a power over me anymore. Lol I have a decision. I’m choosing Remy (lmao as if I am in the book. As if there’s a real love triangle)
#83 I can’t understand. How old is the queen? Camille’s Maman also worked for her and so does Ivy. So that’s 3 generations long of the Belles.
#84 These dresses made of living things are so weird.
#85 Damn it I want to cry Princess Sophia is such a bitch.
#86 I want to be in this Imperial Library!!!
#87 Auguste is like a mushroom who suddenly pops out of nowhere.
#88 Auguste is such a fliiiiiiiiirt.
#89 This is a thick book but I am almost close to finishing it. I think I started it from around 30 something percent in the morning but now I’m at 75%. This is really good I did nothing today but read this.
#90 Now, this is the real flirt, Prince Albert, nephew of the King.
#91 I might have snapped at this Prince already. Good thing you really have the patience Camellia.
#92 OHMYFVCKINGSHT he’s assaulting her.!!.!!>!!>!!$!&!&*^!*
#93 Damn it.
#94 And what did he do to Edelwiss damn it I am so mad I want to cry.
#95 Fucking no why should she shut up? Screw him.
#96 I want to punch the Minister of Law in the face.
#97 I don’t want to be a Belle anymore. I’m taking it back.
#98 The Belles really could turn things upside down if they wish.
#99 No. I’m pretty sure someone have seen that. Sophia will know. How could you be this reckless?
#100 You’re getting on my nerves again, Amber. Did you really come back just for this?
#101 I told you, you were not thinking. Aaaghh what have you done.
#102 Ohmygod I knew it. Boys like that couldn’t be trusted.
#103 What the fucking hell Remy.
#104 Oh my gad some men are just really trash.
#105 I hate you Remy I want to punch you in the face why are you like that but I knew it you’re not like him, I want to hug you and cry in your arms Remy lmao but of course I won’t.
#106 Okay y’all I knew it. Don’t tell me. I knew it. It’s in the flowers in the comb. Camellia, why can’t you see it right away?
#107 Ohmygod this queen. She’s still the queen. She should have just ordered that she doesn’t want anyone to enter the room not even Sophia, because she’s still their queen and that even Sophia can’t obey. There’s no need to destroy doors.
#108 I want to cry this scene is so precious. I haven’t also figured that out. I thought maybe Ivy was her Maman but no.
#109 Okay that’s so embarrassing why did I reacted to quickly I hate myself.
#110 The ending kind of reminds me of Red Queen’s.
#111 Srsly, I don’t want to hear the name Auguste again.
#112 I was waiting for the rebellion thing! Now I realized it really won’t happen because there is still another book/s. Like hello, there has to be.
#113 Such a cliffhanger! But it’s okay. I really thought this is a standalone though. And I can’t explain it. This is a thick book but I read it fast and the pacing is fast but I also kinda felt that it was slow because of the plot. Like it has to be longer because it apparently has another book to follow. Idk am I making sense? But one thing’s clear. I enjoyed it. It’s 4 a.m. I guess that’s a real proof.
#114 Fuck it. There wasn’t any mention of the sequel??? I feel like Dhionne is reaching for me personally after that author’s note. And I just love her more for that. But there wasn’t any mention of a sequel. And I realized I never knew that it’s not a standalone because in the cover it wasn’t specified and I just really thoughts it’s a standalone all this time.
#115 This is frustrating. I stayed up to 4 am just to be confused even if I have to wake up at 5 am because I have a class in the morning. Good Lord. The story sounds like it will have a sequel. That’s the kind of ending you do for a duology or series.
Extra thought a.k.a thoughts hours/days after reading the book:
#116 My initial rating was 4.5 but thinking of it now and considering other things, I think I have to change that again.
#117 I just checked it on Goodreads and it definitely is included in a series. Idk why I didn’t see that before, but at least I can calm down now lol.

Camellia Beauregard is a Belle. In the opulent world of Orléans, Belles are revered, for they control Beauty, and Beauty is a commodity coveted above all else. In Orléans, the people are born gray, they are born damned, and only with the help of a Belle and her talents can they transform and be made beautiful.
But it’s not enough for Camellia to be just a Belle. She wants to be the favorite—the Belle chosen by the Queen of Orléans to live in the royal palace, to tend to the royal family and their court, to be recognized as the most talented Belle in the land. But once Camellia and her Belle sisters arrive at court, it becomes clear that being the favorite is not everything she always dreamed it would be. Behind the gilded palace walls live dark secrets, and Camellia soon learns that the very essence of her existence is a lie—that her powers are far greater, and could be more dangerous, than she ever imagined. And when the queen asks Camellia to risk her own life and help the ailing princess by using Belle powers in unintended ways, Camellia now faces an impossible decision.
With the future of Orléans and its people at stake, Camellia must decide—save herself and her sisters and the way of the Belles—or resuscitate the princess, risk her own life, and change the ways of her world forever.
