A beta reader provides feedback on an unpublished manuscript. They are usually one if not the first person who gets to read a story which draft was just recently finished. They help the author see the story from a reader’s perspective and help identify areas of improvement.
Should you get a beta reader? Is this the right service for you?
If you think your manuscript is ready, if you need another pair of eyes to go through the story you have just spent your blood, sweat, and tears into, and if you are open to receive feedback, then yes you should get a beta reader.
If you are open for constructive feedback, if you would like someone to go through your manuscript line by line and give their honest thoughts, if you would like to get suggestions, then maybe my service is for you. I cannot answer the second question as the only one who will be able to determine that is… you.
If you want to know more about the beta reading service I offer please read more below.
What will you get for availing my services?
You will receive your manuscript back with detailed comments about the writing, the pacing, the characters, the plot, and the setting.
You will also receive a separate document containing a summary of important points and my overall feedback.
You will receive my answers to the specific questions you will provide. You can give particular questions or areas you would like for me to focus on.
(e.g. Did you find the character revealed on Chapter 3 as interesting or not? Was this chapter too short? Did you catch this specific detail on page 54? Was the pacing too slow on the second half? Did the information on page 10 feel too much to take in? etc.)
Please note that checking grammatical and typographical errors are not included in this service.

It was great working with Karina! She was on schedule as promised and she was able to give me extensive feedback and comments on my draft. I really loved her style of commentary on the draft, it really helped me understand the story in the perspective of a reader. This is so difficult as an author, especially when you’ve gone through the material so many times. What she sent over was more than helpful, I think they will be very useful in polishing my draft further. She’s very insightful and would highly recommend her!—Camille Yao
